A flight test UAV Pilot 

Job description

Together with us, you are responsible for developing and implementing the autonomous flight control SW on our system’s flight controller (Pixhawk). In this exciting phase, you will have the opportunity to lead the flight test department, developing the flight sequence alongside our lead engineer.

 

Your job will consist in:

  • Together with us, you are responsible for developing and flight testing our prototypes. In this exciting phase, you will have the opportunity to lead the flight test department and perform the flight and energy generation tests.

  • Defining and establishing a flight test plan

  • Organizing and executing the single flight tests

  • Cooperate to the adaptation and optimization of the control software at all levels.

Position is required as of November-January for the duration of 2-3 months. Contract may be renewed afterwards.

Requirements
  • Airplane model piloting ability

  • PX4 (and alike) competencies

  • Troubleshooting aptitude

  • Excellent communication skills

 
Plus
  • UAV multicopter and gliding models piloting ability

  • English speaking/reporting

  • Experience in developing C/C++ code

  • Experience in model piloting in all weather conditions

  • Knowledge in aerodynamic modeling and aircraft system identification

  • Italian or German speaking

A Control Engineer with focus on aircraft/quadcopter flight controls

 

Job description

Together with us, you are responsible for developing and implementing the autonomous flight control SW on our system’s flight controller (Pixhawk). In this exciting phase, you will have the opportunity to lead the flight test department, developing the flight sequence alongside our lead engineer.

 

Your job will consist in:

  • Conduct research, analysis and simulation experiments in flight controls, autonomous guidance of our flying vehicle, path planning and integration into PX4 Flight Stack

  • Transition from simulation to flight control code using Simulink tools

  • Develop and implement flight control software

  • Plan and perform system/subsystem testing of hardware and software in HIL-SIL environment

  • Identify and troubleshoot avionic issues (sensors and radiolink healthiness,...)

Depending on your interests and level of skill, you will contribute to different areas of our development team such as UAV design, flight controls, state estimation, advanced control strategies and algorithms.

Requirements
  • BSc or MSc in Automation & Control Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Eng or similar

  • Proven knowledge of MATLAB Simulink

  • Experience in working using a model-based approach

  • Strong C/C++  software development skills, especially in a Linux environment

  • Knowledge of an autopilot stack, PX4/QGroundControl Stack is preferred  

  • Troubleshooting aptitude

  • English speaking/reporting

  • Excellent communication skills

 
Plus
  • UAV multicopter and airplane RC piloting ability

  • Experience with tail sitter /VTOL drones

  • Experience in working with Simulink & Matlab

  • Experience in working with Python for control design development and simulation

  • Experience in programming with C/C++, preferably for embedded systems

  • Familiar with and PX4 flight stack, ROS, Gazebo, POSIX, low level communication (CAN, I2C)

  • Italian or German speaking
